60 cakes sold in 3 months!

Yippee! I’ve reached 60 cakes (of various sizes) sold in 3 months, ever since I started my home-based baking biz early August. 60 cakes in 3 months means an average of 5 cakes sold every week. Hurray!

I didn’t expect to reach beyond 50 so fast. I was doing last month’s book keeping yesterday, and was so surprised when I realized I’ve already exceeded my target of selling 50 cakes in 3 months 2 weeks earlier. Mostly due to the recent Hari Raya festivities.

98% of the cakes sold are my well-loved chocolate cakes. The rest are marble cakes. I haven’t had the time to try out new recipes yet, and frankly speaking, I’ve barely enough income to splurge on testing new recipes which might possibly fail (which one test already did, haha). I’m gonna wait till I reach 100 cakes first before I start testing the other recipes I’ve already collected.

I’m pleased to say that my cakes have traveled all over Malaysia, mainly in the Peninsular and have even reached Sabah and will soon travel down under to Singapore. If business continue to be this good, I’m gonna start thinking of other ways to market the cakes. At the moment, I can only cope with direct orders.

Thanks D, H and I for your support through all the hard times. I wouldn’t have made it this far if you guys haven’t cheered me on. ; p

Marble Cakes on Merdeka day

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Happy 50th Merdeka Anniversary Malaysia!

I’m sorry Malaysia. I know I’m one day late. Malaysia’s 50th Merdeka or Independence celebration was on 31st August. But its been a pretty bz weekend. I was perfecting a marble cake recipe. Its not very yummy yet, though I still rate it 3.5 out 5 stars.

I have baked several orders of chocolate cake and my brother thought its high time I start selling marble cake too. He’s gonna bring a sample to work on Monday and I wanted to tweak the recipe a bit before I can confidently say “I bake great, tasty and yummy marble cake and you will regret not tasting it.” I’m hoping that his colleagues will like it enough for me to get a couple of orders in time for the Hari Raya celebration.

Well, one down. On to the rest on my “to bake list”. I’ll keep you guys posted. Below’s a pic of the marble cake fresh out of the oven. Cheers!

Marble Cake. Yum..yum..

More Choc Cake orders

After the success of my first cake order last week, I received another order from another aunt for this weekend. That means I have 3 orders for this month alone. Yippee! Its all family, but still good for a start.

I have to polish up my baking skills to try out other cakes soon. People can only stand eating chocolate cakes for so many times, even if its very good. For starters, I’ve been dying to try out a carrot cake recipe I discovered. I love carrots. But, I need to shop for a good grinder first. Cakes I’m planning to bake next, in no particular order;

1. Carrot Cake

2. Fruit Cake

3. Banana Cake

4. Kek Lapis (an Indonesian Specialty…looks good, and tastes good but very hard to make)

5. Marble Cake ( Update – Found perfect recipe. Tested on unsuspecting relatives. ;-p A success)

6. Cheese Cake

7. Tiramisu

8. Black Forest

9. A Cake with coffee taste

10. Sponge cake

My first Choc cake order in 10 years!

Me and my mum used to bake chocolate cakes to sell to my classmates and teachers at high school. During my Uni years, I haven’t really had time to bake cakes as I was rarely home. And when I went home, I usually cared more about catching up on lost sleep. LOL. The last time I baked a chocolate cake was two years ago for a family gathering.

With extra time on my hands, I was wondering whether I still have the magic touch (on choc cakes…haha…its really good, i’m not kidding) I baked one last weekend, and gave some to my relatives. It turned out great. It was moist, chocolatey, and springy, really2 yummy.

And then, just a couple of hours ago, my aunt asked me to bake one for her for tomorrow. And another batch end of this month. Man, was I excited. I had all the ingredients, except for 2 eggs. Luckily, my aunt’s just a couple of houses away from mine, so I just asked to borrow 2 eggs from her. Haha. It was kinda funny actually. I’m gonna give her a discount, first customer for so long, and owed her the two eggs. ; )

The cake’s now baking in the oven. Just about 5 minutes more should do it. I can smell the cake already from my room. I’m gonna take a picture of a piece of it to show u guys. I’ve gotta go now. The timer just went off. Cheers!
